| Although
green groceries can be bought in supermarkets, it is
worth noting that fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and
flowers can be bought in open street markets (known as
the 'laiki') every day. These markets move according to
the day of the week but, no matter where you live, you
can usually find one within a short distance of your
residence.
It is not hard to find
where the markets are located once you are in the area,
just follow the ladies with their shopping carts! At
some of the markets it is quite difficult to park so be
prepared to walk with your goods!
Many of the bigger
outdoor markets (A. Glyfada, Argyroupolis, Erythrea,
Glyfada, Halandri, Kifissia etc) also have what are
known locally as Russian Markets attached to them. Here
you can find items such as clothes, ornaments, curtain
materials and other fabrics, tablecloths, sheets, small
carpets and even goldfish!
