Postal service in Greece, as in most countries, can be quick or very slow, from personal experience; it once took a letter from the U.K. four months to reach us! At least it arrived. Registered post and express airmail are available at a small charge. Delivery is also not on a daily basis or at any particular time of day. It is advisable to make sure there is a secure letter box outside your house as otherwise your post will be left on the doorstep or on the wall. A notice is sent to notify you that you have a registered letter, this can then be collected from the post office stated on the form, proof of identity and the notification must be presented on collection. Greek post offices sell envelopes, brown paper, padded envelopes and boxes. Bills such as water (EYDAP), electricity (DEI), telephone (OTE) can be paid at post offices for a small surcharge if they have not expired.

Post boxes are bright yellow. All post offices in Athens are open Monday - Friday from 07.30 - 14.00.
