| Obviously
your choice of where to live in Athens will depend
primarily on where you will be working, your choice of
schools if you have children and your preferred social
activities. If you are an avid golfer or sailor, you
might prefer to live in the South (Glyfada, Voula,
Vouliagmeni, Varkiza) or, if you prefer the mountains
and cooler weather in the summer, then the north (Kifissia,
Ekali, Psychico) might suit you better. Heavy traffic is
a disadvantage in the north of Athens but this problem
will gradually be overcome as major road works are
completed before 2004. The opening of the new airport in
Spata has lead to new and improved road services.
Coastal areas such as Lagonisi and Saronida are now more
accessible and a viable option for those who wish to
live by the sea and still send their children to foreign
schools such as Campion in Pallini or the French Lycee
in Agia Paraskevi. The list of locations that we have
drawn up is intended as a guide to the major districts
of Athens; there are, of course, many other areas and,
if you require further information, we can provide it
for you.
There are no particular
areas in Athens to which foreigners gravitate. There are
large expatriate communities in all areas and a wide
variety of clubs and groups to chose from all over
Athens.
A detailed housing
request form is available and we will be able to assist
you in your search for accommodation. It is recommended
that you spend a little time visiting the various
locations as the types of housing available and local
facilities vary enormously from area to area. |
