| Pharmacies
are open during normal shop hours i.e. Mon, Wed 09.00-15.00.
Tues, Thurs & Fri 09.00-1400 & 17.30- 20.00.
Pharmacies are closed on Saturdays and Sundays but you will
always find a pharmacy on duty in your area. You can find
out which pharmacy is on call by going to your nearest
pharmacy where the rota will be posted in the window or on
the door.
Read the notice carefully - some pharmacies are on call all
day and others morning or evening only. There will always be
one that remains open through the night. Most drugs can be
bought over the counter at reasonable prices, many, even
antibiotics, can be purchased without a doctor's
prescription. If you are insured with I.K.A. the Greek
National Insurance programme, a doctor must write medication
prescribed in your book.
The pharmacists are
generally very helpful and will advise you on many self
remedies, they are not doctors though and if in any doubt or
the condition worsens, seek medical help immediately.
Paracetamol is known by the trade name Depon or Panadol and
can be found in tablet and syrup form. Advil is also sold.
The painkiller Ponstan, unavailable in many countries, is
also available over the counter. |
